Vietnam’s Car Sales in October Surged 50% Year-on-year

Wholesale data released by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) showed that in October this year, Vietnam’s new car sales surged 50% year-on-year to 35,114 units, compared with 23,458 units in the same period last year.

However, the above data is the car sales of 20 manufacturers that have joined VAMA, and does not include the car sales of brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Tesla and Nissan, nor does it include the car sales of local electric car manufacturers VinFast and an increasing number of Chinese brands.

 

Another data released by the General Statistics Office of the Vietnamese government showed that in October this year, the total sales of new cars of all brands in the Vietnamese auto market were 56,301 units, including 18,101 imported cars.

 

According to VAMA data, in the first 10 months of this year, the total sales of VAMA-affiliated automakers in Vietnam increased by 7% year-on-year to 228,968 units from 213,588 units in the same period last year; among them, passenger car sales increased by 4% year-on-year to 169,363 units, while commercial vehicle sales increased by 17% year-on-year to 59,605 units.

 

As a local assembler and distributor of many overseas brands and commercial vehicles, Truong Hai (Thaco) Group reported that in the first 10 months of this year, the group’s sales fell by 7% year-on-year to 71,251 units; among them, Kia Motors sales fell by 15% year-on-year to 27,219 units, Mazda Motors sales fell by 9% year-on-year to 25,207 units, while Thaco commercial vehicle sales increased by 9% year-on-year to 14,718 units.
