Daimler Trucks: Half Of Future Sales Will Come From Electric Trucks

In response to the growing global demand for sustainable transportation solutions, Daimler Trucks has announced that it expects half of its sales over the next five years to come from electric trucks. This goal reflects the company’s strong commitment to electrification and environmental sustainability.

The CEO of Daimler Trucks stated, “We are accelerating our transformation, and electric trucks will become a crucial pillar of our business. With advancements in technology and increasing market demand, we believe electric trucks will capture a growing share of the market.”

According to reports, Rådström hopes that Daimler Trucks will sell 30,000 electric trucks in Europe by 2030, accounting for about half of the company’s total annual sales in Europe. At the 2024 Hannover International Transport Fair in Germany, Rådström said, “It is very likely that we can do better this year.” Just earlier this month, Rådström was appointed CEO by the Supervisory Board of Daimler Trucks for a term from October 1 this year to October 31, 2029.

According to Daimler Trucks’ plan, it will start production of its first pure electric heavy-duty truck, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, in November this year. At present, the model has received 2,000 orders. Martin Daum, the outgoing CEO of Daimler Trucks, also said that he believes that the European truck market will not slow down in the first half of 2025.

Previously, the COVID-19 epidemic caused a shortage of chips and other components, which pushed up production costs, and Daimler Truck Group faced a sluggish market demand. The trucking industry also faces the challenge of reducing pollution, but logistics companies, the industry’s main customers, are reluctant to invest more money in electric trucks because the charging infrastructure is also immature.

Andreas Gorbach, chief technology officer of Daimler Trucks, believes that the EU’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030 seems difficult to achieve given the current speed at which charging infrastructure is deployed in Europe. Gorbach suggested that the goal of reducing carbon emissions should be combined with the speed of development of the infrastructure network and readjusted every year based on progress.

The company has already launched several electric truck models, catering to both urban delivery and long-haul transportation needs. Through collaborations with various cities and businesses, Daimler is actively promoting and testing electric trucks to ensure its products meet real market demands.

Industry analysts believe that the rise of electric trucks will transform the logistics sector, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving transport efficiency. With more supportive policies for electric vehicles being introduced by governments worldwide, Daimler’s strategy for electric trucks is poised for broader development prospects.

Additionally, Daimler is committed to building a robust charging infrastructure to support the operation of electric trucks. The company plans to increase investments in the coming years to ensure that electric truck users have convenient access to charging services.

In summary, Daimler Trucks has taken significant steps toward electrification, with electric trucks expected to play an increasingly important role in its sales over the next five years. This move not only supports the company’s sustainable development but also paves the way for a greener transformation in the logistics industry.
