A few days ago, the car website Cars.com released the 2024 “American Manufacturing Index” list (AMI). The index ranked according to the degree of localization of the car in the United States. The proportion of the proportion of American workers in the original area of engine, the original origin of the vehicle gearbox, and the manufacturer factory where the vehicle is located is the five major factors affecting the ranking.

In this year’s list, Tesla Model Y ranked first again. Tesla is also the only car manufacturer sold in the US market in the United States.

However, Tesla did not take the top four of the index list as in 2023, ranking second and third is Honda Passport and Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model S ranked fourth, Teste La Model X fell to the ninth place, Tesla Model 3 fell to 21, but Tesla still had three cars in the top ten.

At the same time, in the first quarter, Ford and Stellandis were ranked second and third in the proportion of local car production cars in the United States.

Among all the vehicles under investigation, half of the models are imported and do not meet the requirements of the US manufacturing index. The scores of SUV and pickups have improved significantly, while the scores of cars and coupe have declined.

Pure electric, hybrid and plug -in hybrid models account for 23%of all participating models, an increase of 130%since 2020, and the number of gasoline power models has decreased by 5%at the same time.

However, Masterson said, “Due to the repeated launch of new models and sales below expected, this year’s US manufacturing index list, electric vehicles still account for only 8%of all cars, which are the same as 2023.”

The new car on the list this year is the 10th Ricksas TX, the 16th Toyota Grand Highlander, and the 28th Toyota hybrid version of Grand Highlander. The RAM 1500 Classic has risen the largest, rising from 89th to 19th, while Mercedes-Benz GLE has declined the largest, from 53rd to 99th.

A market consumer survey of car website Cars.com also found that 56%of car buyers are willing to pay a higher price for a car that can create more employment opportunities in the United States. In this group, 58%said they were willing to pay at least 10%of the cost.

Masterson said that in 2024, the investment of automakers at home and abroad is mainly concentrated in the southern United States, and stated that the region is “the hotbed of manufacturing growth”, followed by the central and western parts. Michigan is still the state with the largest number of vehicles on the index list. Since 2020, the state’s assembly of cars have increased by 23%. At the same time, since 2020, Alabama’s exposure has increased by 50%in the list.
