Shenzhen-2024.6.20 According to foreign media reports, Japanese automaker Toyota announced on October 26 that it would recall approximately 1 million Highlander large crossover vehicles globally. The recall addresses a problem with the vehicle that could cause the front bumper to partially loosen.

The recall affects certain 2020 to 2023 Toyota Highlanders and hybrid versions of the Highlander. Toyota spokesman Josh Burns informed foreign media that around 751,000 vehicles in the U.S. market are impacted by the recall, with an additional 63,000 vehicles affected in Canada and Mexico. Burns did not disclose whether the company had received any reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue.

In a press release, Toyota stated: “The vehicles affected by this recall are equipped with a resin front bumper lower cover assembly attached to a mounting tab. If the front bumper lower cover assembly experiences a minor impact, the mounting tab may detach from the vehicle during normal operation. As a result, one or more parts of the assembly may become detached, potentially creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a collision or causing injury to other road users.”

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect the mounting tab and slot for any damage. If no damage is detected, dealers will install improved design fixing hardware. If damage is found, dealers will replace the bumper cover and install the improved fixing hardware. Owners will be notified of this recall by the end of December.

This recall follows Toyota’s 10 previous recalls in 2023, which have affected nearly 640,000 vehicles in the U.S. market, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
